Welcome to this week’s devotion as we continue the theme of, and thoughts on, our Favourite Bible Characters. My name is Darren and I am one of the Pastors here at Audacious Church.
I have many characters in the Bible that I love and think are amazing, and I can’t wait to meet and have a sit down chat with them in Heaven! From Noah to Nehemiah, as well as Esther and Ruth, the Bible is littered with incredible but normal individuals who through obedience, faithfulness, love, and loyalty, and they did and saw incredible things.
Noah built an Ark, Nehemiah a wall. Esther saved a nation and Ruth was the great, great, great, great, great Grandma of Jesus who saved the world. All just normal, average people, who because they listened to God, positioned themselves well, said no to distractions and were led by the Holy Spirit, made a significant impact and had incredible influence. They could have said no to God but they didn’t; they could have thought about themselves but they didn’t; they could have gone for what the crowd was shouting but they didn’t. They chose to follow God and follow Him well.
I know I’ve cheated a bit today and picked four people but my challenge today is:
Listen to God – create environments in your everyday life where you are in a space to hear Him;
Position yourself well – make sure your environment is faith-filled and the people around you are faith-filled. Prioritise meeting together corporately and in a small group;
Say no to distractions – look at where you could be distracted, what bright lights are tempting you, what things are distracting you. As it says in the Bible: everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial;
Be a person who always says YES to God. Be led by his Spirit. It may not always seem logical, understandable or fanciful, but you have to trust and know it will be beneficial, influential, and ultimately incredible!
Love you church, and have a great rest of your day!
